A dark and run-down Regency villa in central London has been transformed into a light-filled, modern home by
Cox Architects. At the top of the homeowner’s wish list – to bring as much natural light as possible to the interiors
and improve the building’s energy performance.

The early Victorian era property was completely rebuilt from the inside out and turned into a five-bedroom family
house. By moving the main staircase and installing a large roof light above, the architect freed up a lot of useable
space to create two double reception rooms. Light reflecting bright colours and pale ash flooring from Junckers
make the most of natural light and add a contemporary edge to scheme.

Junckers solid ash flooring has excellent strength properties to make a hard-wearing, long-lasting floor. Often
used in contemporary interiors, ash flooring adds natural warmth and character to balance clean lines and hard
surfaces, preventing a room from becoming overly cold or clinical looking. At the same time, ash has enough
cool tones and light, clear shades of creamy whites to light grey-brown which complements a modern setting.
The unique grain structure of ash makes it a characterful floor, similar in pattern to oak but with its own distinct
colour tones. Like most pale-coloured floors, ash will enhance any space, its light and bright look has universal
appeal.

The solid ash floor was fitted throughout the living and sleeping spaces, installed over underfloor heating.
